SERIES: OTHER WAYS OF LIVING (60 min)
Ep 1 - How We Build: In this episode, we're looking at how we build. Almost half of all the materials we extract from the Earth each year end up in buildings and infrastructure. But there are people rethinking the way we design structures, reusing what's there already, instead of leaving it as waste. Others are creating buildings in a way that captures carbon instead of emitting it. And new biomaterials are being developed to replace steel and cement. With the material revolution well underway, Matt goes on a journey to explore how they can transform, how we design, build and live in more circular homes and cities.
Ep 2 - How We Make: In this episode, we're looking at fashion. Every second, the equivalent of an entire rubbish truckload of clothes is burnt or buried in landfill. But people are rethinking our relationship with clothes and pushing the frontiers of what's possible, circulating them through repairs, resales and even upgrades. And textiles are being redesigned to be renewable and regenerative. One thing is for certain, the possibilities for innovation are endless.
Ep 3 - How We Eat: In this episode, we're looking at how we eat. Our global food system currently relies on industrialised, chemically intensive monoculture production. This method, in which one species of crop is grown across huge amounts of land, is affecting our ecosystems, our health and our climate. But rather than bending nature to produce food, there are people redesigning food so that nature can thrive. Some are inventing new foods made from waste products. Others are experimenting with new ways to grow food, connecting consumers to where ingredients come from. And wherever people are using a diverse range of ingredients, it isn't just healthier and more delicious for us, but leads to methods of food production that are regenerative rather than destructive for the environment.
SERIES: REDRESS THE FUTURE (44 min)
ReDress the Future is a new series that explores the ideas and innovators subverting the status quo which underlies an unsustainable fashion industry. Whether it’s calling out the very notion of being “on trend”, which drives relentless consumerism, or it’s focusing in on the pioneers that are bucking the trend against outdated and unsustainable business models and manufacturing processes, this series seeks to challenge the fashion industry as we know it and give viewers a glimpse at a more circular fashion future which they never even knew was possible. Because the future of fashion isn’t about following the herd, it’s about doing things differently, it’s about ReDressing the Future!
BEHIND THE SCREENS (10 min)
Behind the Screens takes viewers on an immersive journey into the people, places and materials behind our everyday obsession with the mobile phone. A visceral documentary that exposes the complex, resource-intensive production process of the device that frames so much of modern-day conversation. Almost every one of us has a mobile phone. In fact, studies calculate that there are more mobile phones than people on the planet. For most of us, they are indispensable, the first thing that we look at in the morning and the last thing that we look at at night. We carry them everywhere and worry if we misplace them. But, considering their importance, does anyone really know what, and who, was involved in the manufacture of their mobile, and where it goes once we’ve upgraded it?
TALE OF THE HECKLER (9 min)
It can often seem like we live in a world beset by conflict and conspiracy, a world where words of anger, outrage, and falsehood seem to carry further than words of reason and rationality. But would our world be less divided if the online world that we live so much of our lives in, wasn’t being manipulated by a few giant tech corporations? The Tale of the Heckler seeks to expose the shocking truth that the huge digital media companies who run the internet use our data and doubt against us, amplifying disinformation and driving denial and falsehoods about the world’s crises, all for the sake of profit.
